A review of literature on the use of technology in schools reveals that, under right conditions, technology can foster improvements in classrooms for both students and teachers. For a successful implementation of technology in schools, however, there are a number of barriers and problems to overcome.
In order for teachers to effectively and comfortably integrate and implement technology in their classroom instruction, they first need to be computer literate. This means that they need to be properly prepared in uses of new and improved technological strategies. If teachers in the information age are expected to step away from the old saying of "teaching the way you were taught," effective preparation on how computers can be integrated into curriculum and hands-on training on instructional technology are essential. In order for technology to be utilized to its maximum potential, school systems should continually improve their professional development programs to prepare and continue to work with educators so that the uses of technology reach their most practical and effective levels.
