Place: Class D4 or D6 (on Mon) or PC-Lab (when announced), Chemical Engineering Department.

Course Goals:

*To introduce students to algorithmic thinking in their approach to problem solving.
*To teach students to implement algorithms in MATLAB.
*To teach the knowledge of MATLAB syntax and semantics
*To have students apply their knowledge of basic science.

It is your responsibility to follow the course web page for announcements.  

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend 100% of the lectures. If you have less then 30% of attendance, you get an F1 and you cannot take the final exam.

Quizes

At the beginning of classes, there may be mini-quizes. These will be for 15 minutes and simple questions for you to test your progress.

Homeworks

*You may work in groups of two or three, and submit one solution set per group.

*When the assignment includes the writing of short MATLAB programs, the text of the code as well as its output must be turned in on hard copy with the rest of the assignment.

*Late homework will be accepted up to 2 days after the due date, but with 10% reduction in grade, per day.

*Staple all pages of your work and do not use a plastic envelope.

 Examinations

There will be two midterm exams and a final exam. It is your responsibility to understand the exam questions. If you miss an exam due to medical reasons, you may ask for a makeup exam provided that you bring proper documentation from your doctor. Keep in mind that makeup exams will be much more challenging and given on the day of the final exam.

 Grading

At the end of the semester your weighted average grade will be calculated as follows:

Two midterm exams         : 40 %

Homeworks and tutorials : 20 %

Final examination             : 40 %

Full Attendance                : 5 %  bonus
