Designed and reinstalled the ‘Numerical Analysis with Matlab’ course for sophomores and the ‘Process Control and Design’ course for seniors. Restructured the ‘Advanced Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics’ compulsory-course for graduate students. Conducting research and managing research group composed of graduate- and senior project-students working on: Nonequilibrium solidification modeling of metal alloys by integrating the physics and thermodynamics due to nonequilibrium solute partitioning; biomedical applications of nonequilibrium phase transformations; and entropy based optimization of engineering systems. Providing guidance for students on service based assistive technologies and writing technical patents. Founder and director of an on-campus TekMer (Technology Center) based research and development firm based on electrochemical machining of metal pieces with funding from the Turkish Republic Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Research Assistant, Dept. of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

    Advanced Materials Processing Lab  (2002-2006):   Analyzed the heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics and kinetics during crystal growth in powders produced in a thermal spray.  Developed a new mathematical model for dendritic crystal growth and compared existing models numerically.  Solved multi-coupled, multivariate systems of nonlinear algebraic equations using a multi-grid algorithm.  Computed metastable phase diagrams and free energy curves using thermodynamic-solution models and estimated parameters in multivariate, nonlinear systems.  Conducted graduate level lectures on Thermodynamics of Materials.

    Thermofluids Lab  (2000-2002):  Developed a computational fluid dynamics model using CFD-ACE software for unix workstations to represent the growth of metal/semiconductor nano-particles during solid phase polymerization.  Conducted research on synthesis and application of carbon nano-tubes and fibers, and in molecular electronics to identify heat transfer problems that required mathematical modeling.

Optimized the energy use in the drying section of an operating high-speed tissue-paper machine PM2 with funding from Eczacıbaşı-Jamont.  Collected data on site. Formulated and solved multi-coupled multi-variable system of linear algebraic equations for material and energy transport to detect energy losses and their causes.

Intern-Technical Assistant, Quality Control Dept. Prepared plain, dyed or printed product samples for routine quality testing.  Performed strength test, color test, and capillary absorptivity test.  Analyzed results and prepared reports. Trained in the washing, bleaching, dyeing, drying, printing, and design control sections for viscose and cotton products.

 

Çanakkale Cement Factory, Turkey,        Winter 1995-1996

Intern-Process Manager Assistant, Process Control Dept. Trained at the Quality Control Lab and the Mechanical Testing Lab for testing of raw and product materials.  Examined the heat and mass transfer mechanisms of the Rotary Furnace for heating and chemically combining raw inorganic materials into calcium silicate clinker. Also participated in its two-day nonstop maintenance.

 

El-Fouladh Iron & Steel Co, Bizerte, Tunisia,        Summer 1995

IAESTE Technical Trainee, Chemistry Lab. Prepared coal and iron samples for quality control analyses and performed routine quantitative chemical tests on such samples.  Examined the ironmaking, steelmaking, casting, and rolling processes and the Blast Furnace for producing molten iron.
