I was born in Çiçekli, a village that depended on Akdağmadeni town in Yozgat, a province of Turkey, in 1957. I attended primary school in the same village and secondary school in Akdağmadeni and high-school in Yozgat. In 1979, I began my undergraduate study at the Department of Old Turkish Literature,  the Language and History-Geography Faculty, Ankara University. I graduated from this faculty in 1983. Between 1984 and 1986, I prepared in the same department my M.A. thesis is entitled XV. Yüzyıl Yazarlarından Yahyā b. Mehmed el-Kātib’in Menāhicü’l-İnşā [The Ways of Composition written by Yahyâ b. Mehmed al-Kātib who is one of the XVth century Ottoman writers]. 

In 1987, I changed my work-field and began to work as a research assistant at the Department of History of the  Faculty of Literature, Hacettepe University in Ankara. Between 1987 and 1993, I prepared in the same department my Ph. D. thesis is entitled Kuruluşundan Günümüze Fātih Külliyesi [Mehmed II the Conqueror’s Complex from its Foundation until Today]. I fulfilled my military service in 1993 immediately after I completed my Ph.D.  I was appointed as assistant professor in 1994. On 11th day of November 1997, I was awarded  the title of associate professorship in the field of  Early Modern History by the jury appointed by Inter-universities Committee. On 23rd day of August 1999, I was appointed as associate professor at the same faculty. On 1st day of September of the same year, I went to the University of Manas in Bishkek city of Kyrgyzstan as interlocutory-employee. I worked there for three years. I returned to the Department of History, Hacettepe University on 7th day of August 2002. On 16th day of June 2004, I was appointed as professor. Currently, I am holding that position.

My main field of study is Ottoman history. I specialized in Ottoman science and educational institutions, especially the Ottoman medreses, scientific profiles and mentalities of the scholars who  taught in these institutions, and historical background of their scientific mentalities, etc. You can find a list and texts of my some works on this website.
